The Canadian Health Information & Privacy Registry Board (CHIPRB) is the principal testing & registration agency for the health information privacy profession in Canada. Established in 2001, the CHIPRB develops and administers standardized national examinations according to established guidelines.The Canadian Health Information & Privacy Registry Board (CHIPRB) exams may only be taken after individuals have completed the distance education program of study in health information privacy offered by CHIPRB. The program approximately takes about 10 to 20 hours of study to complete and prepares individuals for the board exams.Before candidates register to write the board exams administered by the Canadian Health Information & Privacy Registry Board (CHIPRB), they must enrol in and purchase the distance education health information privacy course of CHIPRB directly from this organization. No other agency is authorized to offer the distance education program of CHIPRB.Successful passing of the board exams, administered by CHIPRB, confers a certified status on an eligible applicant. Eligible applicants may use the credential CIPPH: Certified Information Privacy Professional(Health) after their names to indicate their status as a member of the CHIPRB.Canadian Health Information & Privacy Registry Board (CHIPRB) offers a two to three days long, study at home, distance education course in Health Information Privacy. Individuals who enrol in this program generally need about 10 to 20 hours of study before being knowledgeable enough to sit for the board exams.The health information privacy distance education course of CHIPRB introduces applicants to application of Canadian health information privacy laws, practices and principles of health information privacy at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.The distance education program of CHIPRB in health information privacy is open to all residents of Canada regardless of previous employment, academic background or education. Previous experience, education or employment in health care is not necessary. The education material will not be shipped outside Canada as this course is available only to Canadians.This program is of special interest to anyone involved in health care industry but is of outmost importance to front desk staff of health clinics who open mail & give appointments, as well as employees who collect data (such as medical office assistants), record patient information (receptionists), handle billing & invoicing (book keepers), handle electronic data storage & computer repair (computer technicians) & write in patient files (physicians, podiatrists, psychologists, chiropodists, audiologists, rehab case workers, kinesiologists, personal trainers, social workers, dentists, acupuncturists, physiotherapists, massage therapists).The Health Information Privacy Distance Education course tuition is $330 plus tax. Total cost for the health information privacy educational program (including tax & the board exam) is $372.90. The tuition cost is considered a business expense and may be deducted from business tax (if you own a business).Certification benefits to employees* easier to find employment. Employers give preference to employees knowledgeable in the privacy laws* less chance of lawsuits by patients* less chance of getting fired for breach of privacy & mishandling patient information* increased salary compared to non-certified employees.
