My wife and I are in need of a modern green bathroom design. We will need a design for floor plan, green product recommendations, and general recommendations of creating a truly sustainable bathroom. This will be our first home, our first home project, and most notably our first attempt at creating a sustainable bathroom. The bathroom has been stripped down to bare studs. The only thing that remains is the 50 to 60 year old hard wood floor (the flooring will remain and be refinished) which has been buried under multiple layers of glue and vinyl and a small window above the toilet which will need to be replaced. The old bath will be removed because it is large and consumes obscene amounts of water. We would really like recommendations on what type of materials and products we should use for a shower/bath combo; naturally we would love to use earth friendly materials and water saving shower heads and tub faucets. We would love to integrate a grey water system for the water that will be draining from the tub. As far as the vanity is concerned we would simply like to have two sinks, green/recycled/sustainable countertops, multiple space saving drawers, and potentially a wall mounted medicine cabinet/mirror. We would love to see the vanity sinks attached to the bathtub/shower grey water system. As far as the toilet is concerned we would love recommendations on an efficient reasonably priced low flow toilet. Also, we have interest in installing a chemical urinal if it fits in the small space we have. My wife would love some sort of shelving system above the toilet/urinal for towels and other bathroom necessities. As far as lighting is concerned, we are open to any and all ideas. As mentioned in the Project Brief we live in an extremely cold part of the Northern Rockies so heating is a crucial part of ever home in this area. Who likes getting out of the shower into a freezing cold bathroom? With that said; if there are any secrets to efficiently heating a bathroom and keeping it warm we are all ears. We have very limitied experience with any type of remodel and would love recommendations on everything.
